The Need for a Dining Buffet

Buffets have been given diverse styles and designs that choosing the perfect buffet may be a bit tricky.  One thing that you need to remember when buying a buffet is your reason for buying, which should serve its purpose.

Once you know this as well as your preferences, you will be able to buy one that does not only suit your requirements and taste but will also be useful.

There are buffets that were equipped with drawers and shelves to provide extra additional storage space.  Some are lengthy, which can serve the purpose of being a serving table.  The most essential thing, however, is that it must blend well with the other decorations, fitment and fixtures of your dining room.

Providing you more storage areas is a buffet with built-in cabinets and shelves.  You can put your finest china, other dinnerware, tablecloth, napkins, etc. to make your dining room orderly, neat and clean. You can also put on display other miniature items that you have received from friends.  The presence of a buffet in the dining room can also add to the appeal of the room.

A lengthy buffet is perfect for gatherings, sit-down dinners with a few friends, family reunions and parties.  Cover it with a fine and classy tablecloth and you can use it as your serving table.  This will open more space on the dining table giving you more room for the serving plates and similarly offers more comfort to your guests.

Another display item that you can put is an ornamental vase with a nice flower arrangement.

Some people do not see the practicality of owning a buffet and so they do not mind not having one.  The presence of a buffet in the dining area will brighten up its ambiance.

Check on online furniture shops for the different structure, designs and style of buffets.

Keeping your Furniture Spotlessly Clean

The most efficient way of keeping your furniture in good condition is to clean them religiously to thwart the dirt from piling up.  Use the pliable bristles of the vacuum to prevent destroying your furniture.  Make certain that all angles and areas are carefully attended.

Always examine the ingredients of your cleaning materials prior to using them.  Some products may have harmful elements that can damage your furniture.  As these elements damage the outside veneer of your furniture, they will be susceptible to dust, scrapes, and will make them look old and untidy.

You can also steam clean your furniture.  This method is very efficient in eliminating dirt and muck; however, it can give damaging outcome.  The moist can be trapped inside the furniture and before you know it, fungus has emerged as well as other damaging organisms that may lead to the deterioration of your furniture.  Such can also bring disease to family members.

Drips and trickles are unavoidable.  When this happens, get a rag and dab it on the spill right away.  Wipe gradually from the outer side moving toward the center to keep it around the affected spot.

Use a spoon or any object to remove hard drips and trickles like candle wax.  Just make sure, however, that the object you will use will not damage the furniture; hence, avoid using sharp objects.   Do not scrape hard spills.  If it is too tough, soak a cloth in a dilution of warm water and soap but make sure to wring excess water from the cloth before wiping the affected area.

Use soap that does not make too much foam.  Soap that produces too much foam may leave blemishes and stain on the furniture surface.  Likewise, always remember to use warm water instead of tap water; this will prevent hoops and bands to show on your furniture.

Furniture Ideas for a Small Living Room

A small living room does not mean that you cannot have a nice-looking living room.  The secret is in knowing what furniture to have.

Having furniture that is visually light in weight is one of the best ways to make a small living room look bigger.   This means that furniture is light and airy.  Choose furniture that has legs instead of the boxed type.

Furniture with legs permits you to have visible space making the room to look bigger that it is.  You can have a glass coffee table top or accent chairs to establish a look of more space.  Select furniture that allows light to pass through the room as much as possible.

Colors also have a big effect on how small or big the room looks.  It can even make a small room look bigger while making a big room look smaller.  To give a breezy feel to a small room, choose pastel colors or neutral palettes of beige and taupe.  You can similarly use lighter colors to make things appear bigger.

Do not choose stripe, big prints and plaids for upholstery but instead have the textured ones.  With textured upholstery, you get to have the look of a design without the room looking overcrowded.

Use the vertical space in your small living room to an advantage.  Opt to have a taller and narrower bookshelf.

Have tall floor lamps to direct the eyes upward.

When you shop for furniture, select those whose size are suitable in your space.  It should always be a rule of thumb to get the dimension of your space.  What seems to be a small piece may not be the same once you bring it home.  Always choose the sofa first followed by the other pieces.

Select your accessories cautiously.  You do not need to have a lot of display items in a small room.  This will only create clutter.   Display only a few striking pieces than complements the other décor.

A Coffee Table for your Living Room

="

I got accustomed to having a coffee table in the living room. I still remember our old home where we have an all-wood furniture; however, the coffee table has a glass on top.

It was a useful piece of furniture for us --
- serving as a play table
- a work table where we do our homework
- a table where we put our snacks and drinks.

="

That is why I am surprised when I came into a home with no coffee table. This furniture is essential in every living room.

In choosing your coffee table, the following factors must be considered:

Establish where you want to position the coffee table. Although the normal place of this furniture is in the middle of the living room set and in front of the longest sofa, some put them on the side.

="

Modern furniture has come up with coffee tables, which can be placed on the side and was called end tables. Some may claim that end tables are for table lamps but if you are to evaluate it closely, they can also serve the purpose of being a coffee table.

Its size. The ideal length must be half the size of the longest sofa. There should also be a distance between the table and the sofa so you can move around. You do not want to bang your knees on the table, do you? Nor would you this to happen to your guests!

="

It is always sensible to get a longer coffee table as it is more functional.

Its style must match those of your current furniture. This explains the reason why a coffee table is included in a complete living room set – so that everything is in harmony.

="

Nevertheless, if you want your coffee table as an accent you can buy it separately. Buy a living room set without a table and look for a more intense-looking coffee table to match your set.

It shape. Various shapes are available to satisfy your preference. They come in round, rectangle, square, oval forms. Choose the shape that is appropriate for the space you have.

="

Its material. Wooden coffee tables are still very much in fashion. Alternatively, modern furniture created glass top coffee tables with steel frames. Glass top coffee tables can go with any kind of furniture. The downside is it can break easily and may pose danger with children and pets around. There are also coffee tables made from slate or plastic and marble for traditional Italian furniture.

So do not make your living room look bland because of the absence of a coffee table. Get one now and be practical in your choice.

Guidelines on Choosing a Coffee Table

="

It always helps to have a list or set of guidelines when buying things. Thus, in choosing a coffee table for your living room, you also need to have a list of your requirements to get the exact item that you want.

Evaluate where you want the furniture to be situated and measure the area. Ideally, the coffee table should be half the size of your couch, which means you need to measure your couch, too. Give 15 inches allowance between the coffee table and the couch. It would be wise to get a longer coffee table for this will be more useful compared to a small table.

="

Know the purpose of the coffee table. This will guide you on the dimension of your table. A coffee table that will be used for tea must have a height of 25 inches. Coffee tables for showpieces can have a height anywhere from 11 – 16 inches.

Choosing the coffee table style. It must blend with the overall theme of your living room and must be agreeable to your taste. Your furniture is an extension of your personality, thus not everyone may agree on the same furniture. Impressing someone is not enough if you are not happy with what you have bought.

="

Some coffee tables have a revolutionary design that veers away from the traditional furniture. Others are modular that can be rearranged to various shapes and allows you store different things.

The shape of the coffee table. This will depend on the size of your living room space. Modern furniture offers different shapes.

="

Coffee table materials. Wood materials used for coffee tables are mahogany, cherry, oak, pine or teak. Some are made from metal, glass or marble. A few are made from plastics or slate.

The good thing about modern furniture is that they offer more functionality. For this reason, modern coffee tables offer more storage spaces and serve more than one purpose.

="

Check on the new designs of modern coffee tables from online furniture stores and you will be amazed just how this piece of furniture has evolved to more revolutionary designs and styles.

How to Arrange Living Room Furniture

="

One of the most important rooms in the home where you get to have entertainment is the living room. Your family gathers together to play games, watch a movie or TV show, listen to music or just talk. Even when you have guests, you let them in your living room, not in the kitchen or in the dining room, right? Therefore, you need to give much time and planning in designing or decorating this room. Most importantly, you need to arrange the furniture well.

="

Here are a few tips on how to arrange your living room furniture.

Positioning of the Furniture

Create an accent wall. This is very essential and in fact, every living room must have it. You can assign a particular wall and paint it in a brighter hue than the other living room walls. You can also put furniture against it. It can also be a bay window or the traditional arrangement of living room furniture like a fireplace or a console table. Your accent wall must mirror the theme of the living room. After creating an accent wall, plan on your furniture arrangement to emphasize the accent wall.

="

Minimize Furniture

Having a lot of furniture is not a good idea, as it will only make your living room look chaotic. Always take into consideration the dimension of the room. You do not need to put all the nice-looking furniture. It does not mean that because your furniture is eye-catching you need to make way for all of them in the living room. This will only make the room to look disorganized. The living room must be practical. People must be able to move about without hurting someone or hurt themselves. Space is a must to have in the living room.

="

How to Partition the Space

The shape and the dimension of the living room must be studied as this will dictate the arrangement of your furniture. If you have a big living room, then break up the room to make it comfortable and intimate.

Option 1 – assign an area for living and another for dining or tea

Option 2 – have 2 living rooms (informal and formal)

="
Take Full Advantage of the Space

Select furniture that serves dual purposes. Modern living room furniture has a new function where they can also be storage spaces. Coffee tables, end tables, ottomans and even sofas have shelves or drawers. Apart from keeping the room clean, it takes to full advantage of the whole area.

="

Furniture arrangement is not a big task. You only need to be creative. Reading home decorating magazines will guide you, too. The internet also offers a lot of tips when it comes to this matter. Just follow the abovementioned tips and you will have the kind of living room that you have always dreamed of – modish, homely, inviting and warm.

Achieve Organization in the Living Room via Furniture

="

There are times that no matter how we clean and arrange things in our living room, we still cannot understand why it still looks topsy-turvy. Maybe a day or two, it will look organized; but then after a few days the clutter is back. Well, this cannot be helped since this room is where the family gathers together and if you have kids at home, they just leave their things at the sofa. Like if they wanted to read a book, and suddenly felt tired, they go lock themselves in their bedroom and that is why in a week’s time, the living room is a mess.

="

Now this can be prevented if your kids have learned organization. But even if they do, if there is not enough space to keep things, then the problem will continue.

="

And an untidy and chaotic living room is the least that anybody would want to have. If you suddenly have guests, then it is just a shame to let them see the mess.

To prevent this from happening, you need to provide storage spaces for small and big things and whatever stuff that is normally left on the sofa or on the coffee table or even on the floor.
Modern living room furniture is now built with this idea. Since the high cost of living had prompted most families to live in small homes, space is an absolute need for them. And even if the home provides more area, if there is not sufficient storage areas, then living room clutter will still be a problem.

="

Modern living room furniture can assist you with your storage space issue and here are some of them.

Modern sofas have built-in shelves where you can keep your magazine, cards, books, etc.

="

Modern coffee tables were built to provide storage areas. Some have pull-out drawers, swivels out to create an L-shaped design and can be shoved in for a smaller look. There are coffee tables that can be swiveled out of place so you can extend it to new reaches. Doing that, it will expose four storage units where things like remotes, pens, keys and other small items can be kept. There are also coffee tables that have sliding mechanisms providing you more space underneath its top. You will really be amazed and fall in love with these new designs.

="

If you do not want to buy a new coffee table and you have the usual table with open space, then get decorative boxes, baskets or plastic crates and place them beneath the table. These will hold more stuff in the living room such as kid’s toys, board games, books, magazines, etc. A tablecloth that touches the floor can be used to hide them from sight.

="

Modern ottomans also provide storage areas for DVDs, art supplies, magazines, books, etc.

="

Instead of the usual TV table, opt to have the modern TV stands. It may be a TV stand but they are now designed with drawers and shelves for other gadgets.

="

An entertainment center is another good choice. This modern furniture offers more storeroom for DVDs, remote, books, magazine and other decorations. You can even keep your cables out of sight. You also have a choice of material, glass or the ever reliable wood.

A magazine rack can also be had for your magazines and newspapers. Again, a pretty basket can also keep these items in place.

="

A book shelf is another great idea to have in your living room. It can keep books and other reading materials in place. Similarly, it can be used for other decorative stuff that you have.

="

For shoes and slippers that are scattered everywhere, you can have entrance storage for these stuffs. How can you do this? Get a bench with an open space under it to put these items.
Beside that bench, you can have a standing hanger where coats can be placed.

For umbrellas, get a rattan pot-like container but make sure it is not too wide. It will be better if it is a little bit tall, maybe 2 – 2.5 feet high.

="

Organization in the living room can be achieved if your furniture can afford to have dual functions. If you want to make use of your old furniture, then examine them closely to get them to full use. Otherwise, you can sell them and opt to get the modern furniture available in your local shops or online furniture stores.
