How to Arrange Living Room Furniture

="

One of the most important rooms in the home where you get to have entertainment is the living room. Your family gathers together to play games, watch a movie or TV show, listen to music or just talk. Even when you have guests, you let them in your living room, not in the kitchen or in the dining room, right? Therefore, you need to give much time and planning in designing or decorating this room. Most importantly, you need to arrange the furniture well.

="

Here are a few tips on how to arrange your living room furniture.

Positioning of the Furniture

Create an accent wall. This is very essential and in fact, every living room must have it. You can assign a particular wall and paint it in a brighter hue than the other living room walls. You can also put furniture against it. It can also be a bay window or the traditional arrangement of living room furniture like a fireplace or a console table. Your accent wall must mirror the theme of the living room. After creating an accent wall, plan on your furniture arrangement to emphasize the accent wall.

="

Minimize Furniture

Having a lot of furniture is not a good idea, as it will only make your living room look chaotic. Always take into consideration the dimension of the room. You do not need to put all the nice-looking furniture. It does not mean that because your furniture is eye-catching you need to make way for all of them in the living room. This will only make the room to look disorganized. The living room must be practical. People must be able to move about without hurting someone or hurt themselves. Space is a must to have in the living room.

="

How to Partition the Space

The shape and the dimension of the living room must be studied as this will dictate the arrangement of your furniture. If you have a big living room, then break up the room to make it comfortable and intimate.

Option 1 – assign an area for living and another for dining or tea

Option 2 – have 2 living rooms (informal and formal)

Take Full Advantage of the Space

Select furniture that serves dual purposes. Modern living room furniture has a new function where they can also be storage spaces. Coffee tables, end tables, ottomans and even sofas have shelves or drawers. Apart from keeping the room clean, it takes to full advantage of the whole area.

="

Furniture arrangement is not a big task. You only need to be creative. Reading home decorating magazines will guide you, too. The internet also offers a lot of tips when it comes to this matter. Just follow the abovementioned tips and you will have the kind of living room that you have always dreamed of – modish, homely, inviting and warm.

Tips on Having Accent Walls in the Living Room

="

If you have not seen an accent wall, it will be quite off-putting on having one in your living room. Accent walls refer to one side of a room where one wall has a varied look compared with the other walls in the room.

="

If you plan to have an accent wall in your living room, you need to plan how to make it different.

="

Accent walls are normally whole, without windows or doors. There are exemptions like a window that offers a stunning panorama or an accent hue around striking French doors.

="

Choosing your accent wall

Examine which is the natural heart of the room. Most people choose the fireplace. If you choose this, paint the wall in a varied color to make it more remarkable. Look for other areas or items. It can be the wall with artworks, a corner or an alcove, furniture or an architectural wall that is worth seeing.

="

If you cannot find a natural hub in your living room, then produce. Ask yourself what you want the eye to see first. This could be a plant, vase, framed photographs, sculpture or painting. Then assign the wall behind the item as the accent wall.

="

It should draw attention to a big central place either near or on the accent wall. This can be a TV stand, bookshelf, entertainment center, a big sofa or any striking furniture. Do not leave accent walls alone.

="

If your living room has an oval shape or oblong, choose the most distant short wall. The wall will look nearer because the accent color will elicit attention and correct your living room’s shape.

="

Ensure that there will be no rivalry between the other walls and the accent wall. Do not choose an accent wall that is beside a wall that has some central spot. For instance, a mirror or a striking wall décor – an accent wall beside it may establish disorder.

="

When you have selected which side of the living room will be your accent wall, choose the paint color to use. Choose a rich color; it does not have to be orange or red like what other people think it should be.

Small But Terribly Terrific Living Room

="

More and more people want to maximize the minimal space they have in their homes. Since a lot of them live in condos or rent a small apartment, it follows that the rooms are quite small, too. But do not fret because having a small living room is not such a big problem as long as you know which furniture to use.

Of course you do not want very big ones as they will make your living room look like they are being loomed over by giants. This will definitely make the small size of your room seem very obvious. You need furniture which is afloat, neat and orderly. They make the room look organized and tidy. Having unnecessary mess would only take up some space which you could have used for other purposes. Preferably, provide some furniture with legs rather than box-type ones so more space can be seen.

="

If you find sofas too bulky, then opt for chairs instead. You may think that they would be less comfortable than sofas but you can be resourceful enough to choose chairs with cushions included and those that are cozier to use for seating. You can likewise have your own pillows incorporated in them.

="

Your tables would be wonderful if they have glass tops. They allow more space to be seen and more light to enter the room. With this, your room would be clearer and brighter because mirrors are good reflectors of light.

The colors and shades affect your room a great deal. Neutral and pastel colors are very helpful to give more room and space in your living area. Your furniture, pillows, and rugs are good examples of objects where you can incorporate these color techniques.

="

When choosing accessories to match your outfit, you consider your body size first. You also take that into consideration when choosing your living room accessories. Large rooms can afford large accessories but if you have a small living room, avoid large accessories as they will only look like giant objects scaring away the tininess of your room. Avoid choosing striped and plaid designs. Better choose detailed and intricate upholstery. Still, pastel and neutral colors are more preferred.

="

Tall and lengthy furniture is another best option for it will give the illusion of a taller and lengthier room as well. Instead of looking area-wise, people will notice how perpendicularly large your room is. Lamp stands are the best in this aspect, as well as grandfather clocks, cabinets, and tall, slim vases.

Do not overdo your accessories, though. Because you want to maximize space and still have enough of it, choose slim jars and vases, and pick out small but stylish figurines, china, and collectibles.
