Decorating Your Child’s Bedroom Tips

Get your child involved in decorating his room so he can fully express himself.  This can also serve as your bonding time where you get to know more of your child’s preferences, style and interests.  Most of all, he will be happy that he has been a part in decorating his own bedroom.

Furniture that suits children must be durable and creative.  It would be nice if they look nice to play with but ensure that their sturdiness can endure the beatings of your kids.

The use of bunk beds is a good choice particularly if two children share a room.  It will give them ample space in the room.

A child’s room will always be in need of storage space.  Children love to leave their things on the floor or just toss it anywhere.  To teach him organization, pick a bed with a headboard that provides storage spaces.  You can add fitted shelves on top of the bed if it does not have a headboard that can serve as a shelf for his books, CDs, toys, or magazines.  The room can be used as a den or home office in case he outgrows the room.

You may also choose to buy a complete bedroom set to assure that each harmonizes with one another.  This consists of the bed, nightstand, dresser, wardrobe cabinet, chests and rack.

Be reminded that your child’s bedroom will have to undergo three basic changeovers – from being a baby’s room to being a toddler’s room to finally a teenager’s room.  Choosing excellent quality furniture pieces is practical and economical.  Modern furniture is designed to be more pragmatic, adaptable and functional; thus, stretching the value of your money.

Prior to starting the decorating job for your kid’s room, bear in mind that your main objective is to provide him a room that is outstanding, unforgettable and comfortable.  Give him a bedroom that provides functional furniture that grows together with him.

Decorating a Man’s Bedroom with Furniture, Colors and Accessories

Men want their bedroom to be practical and functional.  At this stage, men have outgrown their fondness of putting the posters of favorite athlete and rock band on their bedroom walls (which they used to during high school days).  Unlike women, men do not need many frills in their room.  Here is the best way to decorate a man’s bedroom through the use of furniture, colors and accessories.

We start with the colors first.  A great color to use for a man’s bedroom is to combine the basic hues to a bolder hue.  This will give the room a strong appeal which is what men wanted.  Wallpaper finishes that have horizontal and vertical lines will provide the room a fresh and clean look while at the same time projecting a masculine appeal.  The bold colors that you can use are blue, green, cream, purple, cream and black.  Men would want to have wallpaper in wave patterns.

The second thing is selecting bedroom furniture pieces.  The modern platform bed is perfect for a man’s room.  Get one that has a wooden frame that features a headboard.  If you can get one with a foot board, then do so.

You can find some modern platform beds that come with a fitted nightstand.  Have an alarm clock and table lamp on his nightstand.  You can opt to have an overhead lamp on the headboard, too.

Aside from the bed, a man would need furniture that offers plenty of storage spaces.  You can also find platforms beds with underneath storage.

Choose a wardrobe or an armoire that has shelves and cabinets so he can have room for his underwear, socks, and other clothes accessories.  Wooden furniture would suit a man’s bedroom, as wood signifies strength that denotes masculinity.  Furniture made of wood, likewise, presents a clean, minimalist and sleek appeal – features that are appealing for men.

For his beddings, look for linens that have restrained and silky designs.  Choose earthy hues for his bed sheets such as blue, black, brown or a deep red.  If he prefers to have patterns, get beddings with animal prints.  Adding bright and vibrant appeal are satin sheets.

Accessorize a man’s bedroom by having modern paintings on his wall.  The table lamp is already a part of the room’s accessories.  Have an area rug that he can use during the winter season.  Keep a pleasant smell in his room by providing neutral colored scented candles.  Accessories must be minimal though.

Remember that men are not too fussy like women.  Hence, they want their bedroom to be simple but will provide them comfort.  Put importance in the choice of bed.  Men want a bed where they can sprawl their body conveniently; hence, a big size bed is better.

Modern furniture for the bedroom features contemporary designs making them utilitarian and efficient.  These are the precise furniture that any practical individual needs in his own sanctuary.

Ideal for couples is the queen size bed that has a basic measurement of 60 x 80 inches.  This differs though in each country.

  4. you get to stretch better
  5. available in a myriad of selections are the linens, sheets and blankets

Downside:  bedroom must be spacious and the door’s opening must be wide

King size beds’ basic measurement is 76 x 80 inches and is likewise fitting for couples.

Upsides:

  1. offers more area to stretch
  2. the family can lie together and relax
  3. the extensiveness of the king size helps in soothing your senses
  4. you can sleep well without worrying of disturbing your spouse
  5. more expensive than the queen size
  6. requires a bigger room and door opening

Downsides:

  1. bed linens, sheets and blankets are hard to find
  2. bedroom must be huge as well as the door opening
  3. more expensive than the queen size

Now that you have known the differences between the queen and king size beds, it would be easier to make a decision which of these two suits your needs.  Bear in mind though that the size and appearance should not blind your eyes as the comfort it offers is more essential.

Decorating the Master’s Bedroom

The master’s bedroom is intended for the husband and wife; hence, it must be made very private and pleasant.  Following are a few tips when designing your master’s bedroom.

Make use of modern and contemporary furniture.  Contemporary and modern furniture have varied designs and styles.  Choose those that harmonize well with your bedroom paint color.  They offer more storage spaces thus maximizing its functionality.   You can have a striking dresser, which will not only be a part of your bedroom decoration but one that you can use, too.  Most contemporary dressers come with mirrors so you can maximize your bedroom space.

Choose colors that suggest a soothing and calming atmosphere.  Ideal colors for the master’s bedroom are robin blue and ivory.  These colors reflect lights without creating a shadow.  You can also opt to have other colors but make sure to choose the lighter ones as they suggest a more comforting atmosphere.   The color of your bed linens, pillow cases, curtains, walls and furniture must blend well to have a better equilibrium in your room.

Play up with your bedroom lights.  Lights play an important role in achieving the ambiance that you want to have in the room.  Have lights that are not too dim or too radiant.  Chandeliers are good options since their lights project a romantic touch.  Choose nightstands that give off a warm glow all over the room.  Position a nightstand on each side of the bed.

Your master’s bedroom can have a different appeal and can be made more pleasant and private with the proper choice of furniture, fixtures and colors.  If you carefully plan for its design, both you and your husband will have a bedroom that provides comfort, love and peace.  Remember, this is where you and your spouse rekindle your romance; therefore, it is a must that it provides you a quiet and peaceful atmosphere.

The Use of Drop Ceiling Lights in Your Bedroom

Lights play an important role in decorating a home and the bedroom is one area where proper lights are needed.    Drop ceiling lights can make a big change in your bedroom and can easily match your bedroom furniture, fixtures and set up.

The use of drop ceiling lights in your bedroom is a good choice as they are easy to mount.  They can also provide your bedroom enough lighting and can be used together with a recessed light or chandelier.  A combination of these two can add elegance in your room’s ceiling.

Mounting drop ceiling lights

Determine the place and the number of drop ceiling lights that you will need, which will depend on the size of your bedroom.  The central area is the best part, though.

Get the needed tools such as measuring tape, wire nuts, wires, drywall saw and the bulbs.

Rest the tile on the saw horses, measure and put a mark on the area where you will install the bulbs.

Install the housing light onto the ceiling tile.  Make a line next to the bottom of the housing to obtain the correct size of the hole.

Pierce out the hole to mount the light housing in the hole using the drywall saw and attach it using the black clips that accompany the bulbs.

Finally, refit the drop ceiling tile and the trim to the ceiling.  Attach the wires and install the bulb to its housing.

You will notice a majestic appeal to your drop ceiling when you have installed the illuminating fixtures.

Drop ceiling lights are available in varied patterns and styles such as the crystal LEDs or halogen bulbs.  Both provide your room a mystifying ambiance.  These lighting fixtures are usually operated with a special remote control that goes with them on your purchase.  This allows you to choose the amount of illumination that you want for your room.

With the proper choice of furniture and lighting fixtures, you are sure to have a nice comfortable bedroom.

Tips on How to Safeguard Your Bedroom Furniture from Your Pets

Most of us love pets and this love for them prompts us to let them inside our home.  However, the worst can also happen when we allow them inside as they can also destroy our furniture.  This is all the more worrisome if you let them inside your bedroom.

If you love your pet so much that you want him to stay with you in your bedroom, you need to employ some house rules for him.

Scold your pet the next time he lays on your bed.  Use varied tones so he will be able to differentiate if you are angry or not.  Avoid beating or whipping them.  Spraying some water on them is very effective to drive them away particular for cats.

Provide him his own sleeping space and let him understand that it is his own bed.  Use a blanket or a rug to keep him warm.  A crate would be ideal for dogs or have some enclosures.  See to it that he has adequate space to move about, as dogs love to do this.  The crate must be big enough for him so he can sit, stand and sleep.  Do not bother if he whines during the night.  He will soon relax and get used to sleeping on his crate.  Buy a cathouse if it is a cat that you have.  Cathouses normally have dividers so it can accommodate more than one cat.

To provide your cat a place where she can clamber, buy her a cat tree.  This will prevent her from gnawing and clawing on your furniture.

Buy toys for your pet to keep him busy.  Pets love to gnaw and claw on things.  The toy will divert his attention away from the sofa.

The best solution, nevertheless, is not to allow your pets to go inside your bedroom.  You can specify a certain area where he can stay in the living room and make him understand this.

Bathe your pet daily to remove any foul smell.  Groom him so he will not develop any skin disease.
Pets are like humans.  They need to be trained while they are still young.  If you do this, you will not encounter any problem of damaged furniture brought about by your pets loitering inside your home.
