One of the things that you need to have in dealing with your
children's messiness is patience. If your child can make his bedroom
clean and neat, then you have trained him well and you are indeed lucky.
Nagging your child to clean his bedroom is not a good thing to do.
This will not motivate him to do it or if ever he did, he will be doing
it with a heavy heart.
The best thing to do is to make a list and have it posted on his
headboard or his closet's door. You can
also try putting a slogan on cleanliness and post it on the closet door.
You can make a caricature differentiating a messy and an orderly room.
Buy him with organizers that are sufficient to store his things. Children tend to store tiny things -- from their toys, accessories, bit
and pieces, items given to them by you or relatives and friends. If these
things pile up and there is not enough space to keep them, clutter will indeed
be around in his bedroom. Those who are from 4 to 12 years of age also
want their stuff toys beside them when they sleep. Even teenagers have
their own share of collections such as CDs, songbooks, make-up, magazines and
other teen paraphernalia.
Provide some cleaning materials and store them in a nice bin in
one corner of the room. Ensure that you also provide him with a trash
can. The presence of these cleaning materials will remind him to keep his
room tidy.
The following furniture can help put order in his bedroom.
Check on the latest styles and designs of beds. Modern beds
are now fitted with underneath drawers.
You can also buy him storage boxes or carts. They come with
wheels for easy maneuvering. These can be placed under his bed so make
sure that they fit under it. Therefore, measure the space under the bed
to make sure you get the right size. They are available in various sizes
and colors.
You can have fitted cabinets on his wall where he can store his
toys, books and other stuff. Utilize intricate brackets to make it really
look like a display area.
Get him a new set of wardrobe. Modern closets are no longer
limited for clothes. They are now created with drawers and divisions to
accommodate more items like belts, hankies, hats, and other accessories.
Otherwise, you can ask the help of a carpenter to make some fixing in the
closet so he can have more storage space for his personal belongings.
Put a desk so will have a better area where he can study his
lessons. Be sure to have a desk lamp for him. It will be better if
you can have a desk with drawers and the chair with a shelf.
Finally, assist in cleaning his room. This is a good way of
bonding with each one. After the chores are done, prepare a snack for
yourselves.
This habit will get into his system until such time that he
learns how to do it on his own without the notes or reminders.
