Buyers Beware of Furniture Scam Sites

In the past few years the amount of furniture sites online has increased dramatically and with this many sites it is extremely significant to do as much research as possible before making the purchase to avoid being scammed or duped into buying something you didnt want. The most popular con pulled by some fake furniture stores is not recieving the leather sofas or other pieces of modern furniture after payment has been made. If you are lucky you might receive the furniture, but it ends up being the wrong piece.

What you should do to avoid getting scammed:

  • Check with the Better Business Bureau

So, how do you avoid being the victim of these furniture scams? Well, there are a few key things you must look for to remain scam free. Most importantly make sure the furniture store is accredited by the better business burea. You can look for the better business bureau icon usually located on the bottom or one of the two side columns on the website, but is it really supposed to calm the waters? It's just an image, anybody can put up a badge or image on a website to make you BELIEVE that they are accredited, but really have an F rating or not accredited at ALL. this is why you should always check through the Better Business Bureau website to see if the furniture site has been in business for quite some time and has a satisfactory track record thus far. http://www.bbb.com/.

  • Google the furniture sites name and the word "scam" or "complaint" in the same search.

The last thing you must check is if there are any complaints written about the site in question. You can check this simply by searching google for the name of the store plus the word "scam" or the word "complaint". For example, search for Joe Shmo's Furniture scam or Joe's furniture complaints. Google will show every website with those two words associated together. There are a number of complaint boards devoted specifically to pointing out the scammers. Make sure you visit the site that google finds and read in detail all the complaints made about the furniture store to get a good sense of their tactics they use to jip the consumer out of his/her money. And remember, just because google returns results for the furniture companies name and the word "scam" or "complaint" does not necessarily mean that site is not to be trusted. If you're serious about purchasing furniture, read all the complaints, and judge for yourself whether they are worthy of your business. Sometimes customers get mad that they werent given a good price on a piece of furniture, and may post false reviews for the sake of revenge, but if you have a greater community backing up the same claims over and over, thats an automatic red flag.

For example: Joe Shmo's furniture site is known to dupe customers into believing they will get their furniture the same as pictured on the website and delivery time in 2 weeks with white glove delivery. What you get instead is a piece of furniture the wrong color, 6 weeks later, and curb side delivery. If you see this constantly being complained about, buyer beware!

After you have done your research you might be surprised at what you will find.
