Choosing the Right Size of TV Stand for Your Home

One of the essential furniture pieces in  the living room décor is the television, as it is the principal source of relaxation for most families.  A few household, however, pay much attention on choosing the ideal TV set but leaving the appropriate TV stand.

The materials and designs must be given importance when choosing the right TV stand for your home.  Modern living rooms would look better with a stand made of glass or metal.  TV stands made of wood would complement the traditional type of home but choose one that has the same tone with your other furniture.  With the right size of TV stand, you have made the focal point in your living room.

How to choose

Select a stand that suits your room size and can house the TV set.  Put a small amount of space, though, on the sides of the unit to avoid making it look tight.

Profundity must be taken into account.  The new styles of television sets will not give you any issue on this aspect but not if you have the old style that sticks out at the back.  Hence, measure its depth and again allow 1 to 2 inches for the cords and cables.

The TV stand must appropriately support the television’s weight.  Not all the TV stands that you see can give the proper support.  They are made with various materials and methods.  Check on your TV’s manual to get its weight as well as its size.

Small units would require small TV stands, of course.  These are not heavy and are easier to transport or move.  If you have a TV in your bedroom, small stands would be ideal.  Small stands provide spaces or shelves for your DVD and other items and are available in various styles and designs.

Large TV stands have more shelves to house all of your entertainment devices such as the DVD player, home stereo and other stuff; thus, eliminating clutter in your living room.  They are, however, heavier and require more space.

Choosing the right size of television stand for your home will rely on your room size, TV size as well as your other requirements.  It must also blend well with your other pieces of furniture.

Accent Walls and Living Room Furniture Placement Guidelines

Becoming a very popular part of home décor are accent walls.  Looked through a magazine and you will notice an accent wall is present in most of the rooms.  However, you may find it a little intimidating if you never had one. Following are some guidelines on how to have accent walls and how to place your living room furniture to make it look like a professional designer did it.

You can follow numerous guidelines on doing this.  Choosing the wall that is in the line of your sight upon entering the room is suggested by most interior designers.   The eyes of the person entering your living room must be drawn by the accent wall in a straight line.

If your home has plenty of entrances, the line of sight will vary on which entrance will be used.  Your best solution is to have the accent wall where the eyes are naturally attracted to.  This is exemplified when you have a big window or fireplace, as it will naturally attract anybody’s attention.  A fixed object does not need to be your focal point.  A work of art like a painting or sculpture and even a piece of furniture can be your focal point.

Modify the position of your furniture

You can always alter the way your furniture has been positioned.  It does not have to stay the way it is for years.

Start with the biggest piece, which is the sofa.  Put it in a spot where it faces your focal point.  Place the other pieces accordingly by their sizes.  Sofas and chairs must be closely placed with each other but not too close to provide a more conducive atmosphere for conversations.

Leave a small space between your furniture and the walls to avoid the look of rigidity.  A sofa table between the wall and the sofa can make a big difference.  Display some mementos or collectibles on top of the table.

Put a coffee table or end table where appropriate.  This will provide functionality so books, magazines, cups, glasses and food can be placed while conversing or watching TV.  Choose the proper size of table to blend with the size of your living room and the sofa or chairs.

Enjoy having an accent wall in your room by following the above guidelines on accent wall and living room furniture placement.

House Plants to Lighten Up Your Living Room

One of the best ways to lighten up your living room is to have house plants.  These will not only provide a fresher look in your room but will likewise disinfect the air inside it.

If you compare a living room with plants with a living room without plants, which one would you choose?  Although the presence of functional and elegant furniture provides a comfortable and pleasing appearance for the room, it is still different if you see some plants that blend with your furniture, furnishings and decorations.  Even though furniture adds to the aesthetic appearance of the room, the presence of plants adds a softer, cooling effect that is different with that of the furniture.  Resting your back on your sofa’s wide soft cushions and leaning your head on its adjustable headrests will be more satisfying and gratifying with plants inside your room.

Some homeowners fill their room with too many plants that it floods the room making it look like a greenhouse.  This tends to take away the attention from the furniture.  Plants must be placed strategically without covering the faces of each other when conversing.  It must not block entrances and walkways, too.

If you intend to put more houseplants inside your living room, you can assign a corner and arrange the plants there to make a little garden inside your home.  Nevertheless, you need to make certain that these are plants can thrive even if they are situated inside the home.  These are called houseplants.

Some of the houseplants that you can have for your home are:

Peace lilies have anthurium-like white flowers and white big, green leaves.

Poinsettias are well-known with its red flowers although it also has white, orange, pink and dappled.

Moth Orchids bloom every 3 months and can be placed near the window or door to produce more flowers.

Lady Palm has fan-shaped leaves and does not need to be repotted regularly.

Surviving with less care is the Sweetheart Plant that need frequent watering, light temperature and shade.

Choosing houseplants that need less attention are good options if you do not have much time to take care of them or if you do not have a green thumb.  The aesthetic appeal of your living room will be further enhanced with their presence.

Your Guide to Buying Leather Sectional Sofas

A few homeowners may consider it tough looking for excellent quality furniture particularly leather sectional sofa.    Aside from the kind of leather, one has also to choose the style and color of the sectional.  Here are a few guides to buying leather sectional sofas.

Check on the materials and structure.  Genuine leather would be a good choice for it gives you the guarantee that it is long-lasting particularly if well maintained.    It even looked better throughout the years.  Artificial leather, on the other hand, is economical and can last for about 4 – 4 ½ years.  This is suitable for people with a limited budget.

The structure is essential for a household with younger kids and with members of the family on the heavy side.  A good structured sofa will last you longer in spite of the regular beatings of kids and can endure heavy weights.  Hence, you need to check if it is solidly constructed and if the leather was strongly stitched.

With regards the color, leather sectionals are available in various colors.  The common color of contemporary leather sectional sofas is white.  This color is cool and represents purity and cleanliness.  However, it is not recommended with kids and pets around the home not unless you have the time to clean it every day.  Brown and black are also used and have been tagged as classic colors for sofas.  This choice of color is better, as it hides dirt and has a high reselling value.  You can also choose grey, navy or beige which is easy to blend with other colors.

Next on the list are the style and the accessories.   For a modern-styled living room, opt to have a sectional sofa in bold colors like red with a sleek and contemporary style.  The classic leather sectional sofa would suit a living room with a traditional style.  Have some throw pillows in matching colors for your accessories.

Investing on a good quality leather sectional sofa is a good decision.  Although it may be expensive, you will realize that you save more in the end.  It is good even during summer and winter.  Most of all, sofas made of leather does not go out of style and adds luxuriousness and elegance in anybody’s living room.  A little knowledge on the material, structure, style and color of furniture can help you to decide what is best for your home.
